Akvavit or aquavit (English pronunciation: /ˈɑːkwəviːt/, /ˈɑːkvəviːt/; also akevitt in Norwegian) is a flavoured spirit that is produced in Scandinavia and typically contains 40% alcohol by volume. Its name comes from aqua vitae, the Latin for "water of life".
0.7 litre vodka
3 tsp whole cummin
2 tsp whole fennel
1 tsp anis seed
3 tsp sugar
Mix the herbs and sugar into a clean bottle.
Add one cup of vodka and shake until the sugar dissolves.
Leave for at least 24 hours.
Pour through a strainer first into a clean jug (and preferably also through a coffee filter) to remove any herb pieces.
Pour back into the bottle and add the remaining vodka (0.5 liter).
Chill in the freezer for a quick chill.
